Ice skating in the woods!

I haven't skated in years! Probably since middle school at an ice-skating rink for a friend's birthday party. But I like a challenge, so when we found this farm in Quebec that offers ice skating around the wooded property we said, "Why not?".

Domaine Enchanteur, au Domaine de la forêt perdue is an attraction just north of Lac Saint-Pierre on the St. Lawrence River in Quebec Canada. In the winter you can skate around the wooded property along a series of trails. At different places along the trails are enclosures, where you can stop to feed and pet different animals. Deer, sheep, llamas, there are also emus and geese.

As I haven't been skating in years, I was (thankfully) surprised by how quickly I remembered the basics. And the whole group had so much fun!

We got really lucky on the weather for the day with sunshine and the temperature around 38 degrees F. (The days prior to hadn't gotten above freezing and had been quite windy). We cruised around for a few hours, until our muscles started to complain from unfamiliar exercise.

This attraction is great for everyone. We saw families, couples, skating enthusiasts, and skating newbies. You can rent skates and other equipment on site. For the skating newbies you can get a stander or push-sled to assist with balance until you are comfortable on your own.

I would recommend getting there early. When we first arrived, there were very few people on the trails. But as the time went, the trails started to fill up quickly (it was a really beautiful day, so lots of people were looking to get outside after the frigid weather the days before). And as more people used the trails and the ice warmed up in the sunny patches, the trails did start to get a little slushy in some spots.
